Sustainable Practices
Imagine It… remains a benchmark for socially and ecologically conscious companies by maintaining the highest level of business standards, both environmentally and ethically. We are currently working in compliance with the ISO 14000 essentials for environmental management systems. It provides requirements and general guidelines as well as addresses specific environmental aspects, including: performance evaluation, life cycle analysis, and communication. In addition, we currently have a health and safety protection system in place that conforms to current Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Standards and with all current laws. Our Hazard communication plan was derived from the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard, Title 29 Code of Federal Regulations 1910.1200 and our Emergency Action Plan stems from OSHA Process Management Safety Standard, Title 29 Code of Federal Regulations 1910.38.
Currently, there is no local legislation that protects data security/data destruction for cell phones and other electronic gadgets. Imagine It… is leading the way by guaranteeing data security for all cell phones and electronics that may store personal or proprietary information. All reused cell phones and gadgets are handled in accordance with software piracy laws. All non-transferable information is erased, or the item is destroyed in compliance with all local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
Imagine It… is proud to be one of the first registered Consolidation Facilities in New York with the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation under the Electronic Equipment Recycling and Reuse Act, signed into law by Governor Patterson in May of 2010. The law requires manufactures of electronic equipment to accept electronics for waste collection, handling, recycling or reuse.
Our business practices continue to remain compliant within the R2 Responsible Recycling Standards that assess electronics recyclers’ environmental, health and safety, and security practices. Regrettably, we cannot obtain the accredited certification because it does not cover Consolidation Facilities in the standards. Imagine It… is gently lobbying for a new set of the standards that can be obtained by registered consolidation facilities within New York State as well as Recycling Facilities and Collection Sites. Imagine it… is eager to become certified under the new R2 Standards for electronics consolidation upon their release.
Imagine It… is currently reviewing the performance requirements excerpted from the e-Stewards Standard for Responsible Recycling and Reuse of Electronic Equipment. These standards are rigorous, yet practical operational criteria for globally responsible practices pertaining to critical areas such as: data security, accountability for toxic electronic waste, minimum on-site practices, and parameters for legitimate reuse and refurbishment. We having been striving to become completely compliant with the standards and hope to be accredited in the near future.
